A mainstay of café culture in Spain and Portugal. A Cortado uses less milk than a flat white and a fraction of the milk used in a latte. This powerful shot bridges the gap between black coffee and milk-based drinks. Pour the short button twice for 80ml then add warm milk to taste.
This coffee has the most caffeine in our range, so provides the perfect morning kick.
So I was looking for full bodied and quite creamy but none of these quite hits that mark for me although I do recognise the quality.
And shallow though this may be I don’t like them rather dates packaging that reminds me of Kenco from the eighties. Needs a rebrand and a funky container.
Came across a recommendation for roar and gill while searching for compostable alternatives to standard aluminum pods so decided to chance buying the starter pack. I've never been so impressed!
First off the packaging, including the packaging for postage, is neat, attractive, and all recyclable. No wasted space filled with bubble wrap, no unnecessary pile of junk flyers stuffed in the box. How the four boxes of pods fit perfectly into the packing box was even satisfying for how neat and well thought out it was. Is that the most important thing when buying coffee? No. Do I appreciate it anyway? Absolutely!
I've tried a few different compostable pods with varying degrees of success but these have to be my absolute favorite. No unusual aftertaste from the pod itself, it doesn't stick to the machine, and there's no weird smell from the pods either.
The flavours from the different varieties were all delicious. I prefer to drink espresso black with no sugar so any unusual, burnt or sickly taste to the coffee tends to show up immediately. I'm down to about a week's worth of capsules and not one cup of coffee has been bad. The cortado is my least favorite but it does clearly state that it was designed to be drank with milk so I'm undoubtedly missing the intended taste with this one and even so it's still a nice coffee.
If I had to find a problem with these pods I'd say I did find that the crema tended to dissipate faster than other brands I've tried but that could be down to the pressure on my admittedly very old machine. And to be fair, I never usually had my coffee last long enough for that to really be noticable.
All around happy with my purchase and more than happy to recommend and buy again myself!
Everything about the Roar Gill coffee experience is first class. Seamless online ordering and delivery, correctly priced, great-tasting coffee as one expects from a sealed-pod rather than pre-ground packet system and I can empty straight into my compost food container with a smile rather than the guilt I felt with other brands' aluminium pods. What's not to like?
Great taste and doing our bit for the environment
