Coffee is a hugely important industry to Honduras with more than 40,000 coffee farms and some two million people involved in the coffee harvest. The great soil, altitude and climate in Honduras, combined with farmers being increasingly better-trained in agricultural practices is resulting in some amazing coffees.
Finca Monte Cristo coffee comes from the western mountainous region of Copan and is a high quality coffee designated as ‘Strictly High Grown’ (SHG) grown at between 1500 – 2000 meters above sea level which is an important criteria when searching for the best coffees. The bean develops more slowly providing greater flavour potential and a wider variety of roasting options here at Roar Gill.Finca Monte Cristo is a member of the international coffee partners.
The vision of International Coffee Partners (ICP) is to improve smallholder coffee farmers’ livelihoods by making them more competitive, based on sustainable practices. This vision goes beyond implementing individual development projects; ICP’s objective is to contribute to establishing a fair and sustainable coffee sector in all coffee producing regions and countries.
I did not find this a particularly bold or flavourful coffee and will not be returning. Everything is done well enough, but as Larry would say: have you got the beans? In my view, not these ones.
